About Us

"The street is harsh, but the stray's spirit is unyielding."

Our Story

It all started with baby chicks. We decided that we wanted chickens (our "ladies"). Over the years, we have had up to 40, and as few as 4.

Then it was cats. My mom surprised us with fostering a mother cat and her 5 kittens. We would only keep one, if any. But my mom and brother liked Riley, my dad loved Finley, and I adored Gracie. So we ended up keeping 3 kittens.

My family and I have been visiting Central America and other developing countries and territories for many years and always wishing we could help all the starving, but loving street dogs.

When we went to Costa Rica, we brought back Pipa (Costa Rican slang for baby coconut). A kind Costa Rican woman was taking care of Pipa and her sister because the mom had run away. Her belly was bulging from a severe tapeworm infection. She most likely would have contracted heartworm and died at an early age. Pipa was infested with fleas, and her coat was dull and thin due to the worms. We brought her back and adopted her, and now her black coat gleams, and she loves to play and run around. You could not ask for a more loyal or smart dog than Pipa.

When we went to Panama, we brought Lola back. Lola was destined to be a guard dog tied on a 3-4 foot long leash. An unemployed one at that, because she is too kind to be scary. She would probably have died of starvation or melanoma, with her pale skin, if we had left her in Panama. We bought Lola back to the U.S. mainland, and she loves everyone. Lola is the most loving and excitable dog you will ever find.

Then we went to Puerto Rico, and met Milo. Since we couldn't adopt any other dogs ourselves, we found him a loving home with Joe. I realized, if we can give Milo, Pipa, and Lola loving forever homes, why not other dogs? This is how I decided to start Rock Bottom Rescue, and save misfortuned strays from the streets in order to give them a better future.

About Me

I'm Claire, and I am 13 years old. I have always loved animals, and my room is filled with doves, quail, chicks, cats and dogs. I love to learn and try new things. I am in 8th grade, and go to Scotts Ridge Middle School. I have started Rock Bottom Rescue because all animals deserve a chance to have a family and be loved. Whenever my family and I went to developing countries, I alway wished we could help the dogs on the streets whose ribs showed, but were still trusting to humans. So I found a way to help them.
